England has one of the stricter gun laws in the world, resulting knives and sharp objects offences be the most common killing way. Since 2016 statistics have risen severly all over the country, reaching 15.6 thousand offences in London between 2019 and 2020, 5.8 thousand increase compared to 2015-2016.
Most of the knife crime is rooted in young teenagers taking knives from their kitchens. In May 2019, the activist Courtney Barrett, along with a group of voluunteers, has started Binning Knives Saves Lives, a door to door collection of excess knives in the most crucial areas of East London. This has helped reducing the risk and encouraging families to have more control on their kids'safety.
In West London Justin Finlayson set up United Borders, a nonprofit to reduce youth violence by connecting young people. The programs take place on a double deck bus converted into a mobile recording station for music and podcasts, which is driven to different areas in Brent, one of the boroughs with the highest rates of knife crime in London.
