The 9 September 2017 Tuscany had extraordinary rainfalls, with Livorno having tragic consequences in the early hours of the 10th September. A bad weather alert was underestimated, many utilities were without electricity, roads were flooded due to the failure of manholes and the hills surrounding the city saw the highest level of water fallen, 242mm.
Rio Maggiore, a stream buried in the 80s overflowed, invading the garden of a villa, where 4 people died. Rio Ardenza overflowed near the mouth of the river. The demage amounts to roughly over 6 million euro.
A total of 6 people lost their lives (Simone 37 anni e sua moglie Glenda, il figlio Filippo 4 anni e il nonno Roberto di 74, Gianfranco 67 anni e Raimondo 70) and 13 were wounded.
